my friend hosted her birthday here and we had so much fun!!!! this is definitely oriented for kids, but we brought food and drinks and had a great little 2 hour party. we all made our own splatter-painted canvases and after getting all messy we got even more messy when we filled ballons with paint and made my friend her own large birthday canvas.wear old shoes and old clothes!! i would visit again!!

i booked a birthday for my daughter twice. i guess it was fun. the first time was great. the kids did a splatter paint party and it was so much fun.second time was not so great, we booked the clay party and most of the kids were not able to play well with it because they were too young but everybody was within the age range required. a little disappointing... a couple of week we got back to get the masterpieces. they had been stacked in a cardboard box one on top of the other, half of them were chipped and there was even one piece belonging to a child from an other party.my daughter was not happy her whatever it was had been broken. next year, we'll do it at home.

we just had my daughter's 5th birthday party at 4cats, and it was fabulous! we could not have been more pleased. sarah and erica took the kids in hand for an entire hour, guiding them in making polymer clay fairies and pirates and painting small canvases to put them on. the adults and littler kids were in the other room just relaxing (little kids had art supplies, too). i was amazed how tight a ship they ran! these 4- and 5-year-olds can be a challenge, but they were perfectly behaved and just sat and did their projects! then we gathered for pizza (from benchmark across the circle - they give a deal) and cake in the other room. perfect! thanks, ladies!

we just took my almost 4 year old son to their holiday workshop today and he had a great time. they have regular classes that u can register for or u can do drop-ins as well. he had so much fun that we booked for his 4th birthday party as well. the studio is beautiful and decorated with the students work.

convenient location, bright sun-filled space, and a creative vibe all add up to make 4 cats a positive experience. my son took the stop motion animation class (star wars theme) with a couple of his friends and a few other boys who all seemed to get along well and enjoyed creating their project together. from developing the script, to making the sets, to filming the scenes, the class gave the kids a good sense of what it takes to make a stop motion animation film. and at the end, my son proudly showed me his movie on a dvd which we brought home.

my 5 year old son loves making art at 4cats. and i love seeing what he brings home. it's a great environment for kids to learn various artistic techniques and to explore their creativity. the studio itself is a fun, bright place and the walls are covered with art that other kids have made. be sure to check out the splash room (i think that's what it's called. or is it the splatter room? well, you'll know it when you see it) where kids hang large sheets of paper on the wall and be free to fling paint at the paper.

first of all, the studio space at 4cats is amazing. it 's clean, neat, and very visually appealing to both kids and adults. when my 4 year old son stepped into the studio, he immediately became excited about the "cool" art and materials that were on display. he couldn't wait to get started on creating some art!we signed up to do the clay art class. the kid friendly staff was very knowledgeable and did a wonderful job guiding my son through the steps. i think it's fantastic he was able to create a "work of art" that he can take home and proudly display for friends and family to see.we can't wait to go back and take some more classes. i noticed on their website they have some seasonal classes and workshops. i would recommend folks to look at their website often and check out all the new and exciting workshops they offer. when i showed the various class options to my son he couldn't decide which one he wanted to do more. i think we are coming back often.

we have been sending our children to 4 cats for years, and i am finally getting around to writing a yelp review. all three of our kiddos have loved 4 cats. they always look forward to going to art class. and, sarah and the rest of the crew make it so pleasant! it is always a delight. it is well-organized, and students use quality art supplies (real canvas instead of paper, etc.). so, you get art projects that are worth keeping around. we have lots of our kids' paintings stretched and hanging around the house. another thing that we have noticed is that our kids' art projects often stand out when displayed with their classmates' projects at school. we attribute this to the instruction they have had at 4 cats, and think it a very worthwhile investment.

we love this art studio. my daughter (6) has taken classes non-stop since her first (we've taken several of the artist series - these are great! fun for the kiddos and educational about influential artists). the prices here are reasonable and the instructors are great - they are working artists but also wonderful with kids. imho, this place is the sweet spot for kids art inspiration and skills.

i took my 2nd grade class here for a field trip. we chose the vincent van gogh lesson, in which two teachers gave a brief lesson about the artist, then guided us through an acrylic painting in the style of van gogh. the first great aspect was, since we all arrived in 4/5 separate cars, not all the kids got there at the same time so they gave the first arrivals paper and colors to occupy them until we all got there! brilliant! the next useful facet was that the teachers did not just release to the kids to do their projects willy-nilly. i fully appreciated the classroom management that was demonstrated by both facilitators, which was a key component in being able to complete the project in a timely manner. lastly, we all ended up with a canvas (canvas!) project that will be a keepsake for all my students for years to come!! highly recommended for cleanliness of facility, expertise of staff, and quality of final product!! now i can't wait to take a class there so that i can have my own canvas to take home!

just had my daughter's bday there--was really fun--the kids had a blast--it is a bright, clean, fun spot to learn about art! it's a neat way to intro kids, especially small ones to different artists and their mediums. my daughter loves art so i wanted to do something different for her bday this year than the chuck e. cheese norm--4 cats was certainly that! it's tucked in a cute neighborhood full of shops and restaurants too if you want to make a day of it. my only complaint is the party isnt near long enough---the kids had so much fun in the paint splatter room--it was hard to break it up! and as messy as that sounds--it wasn't bad at all! so far it is my favorite bday to date! and i can't wait to pick up the giant jackson pollock type canvas all the kids created!

we are so pleased to have 4cats in our neighborhood! we hosted our daughter's birthday party there and a blast was had by all. the parents were free to drop off but many wanted to stay because we had so much fun in the back room. it was the perfect location for a unique birthday party. they also offer classes throughout the week/weekend and the kids love it. i can barely drive by without them asking when they get to go next. awesome concept and a great team of people making it happen.

we signed up our boys (4 and 8) for a week-long summer camp here. we live in nyc, and our boys have attended special art classes there for years, but they liked 4cats better than anything they'd ever done before. the range of activities (there is a paint splatter room!) really kept them engaged. the program seems to be extremely well-run. it is a beautiful, large, sun-lit space. the proprietor, sarah, could not be nicer or more understanding. they produced gorgeous art works that they cared deeply about and really just loved it! wish there were a place like this back in new york city--we would be faithfuls!

this place obviously doesn't care about public opinion or customer service. i bought a living social voucher for them more than a year ago and wasn't able to use it because the owners got greedy and stopped offering workshops for older kids on the weekends. the certificate was for a 2-hour workshop. they don't answer emails or return phone calls and make promises that they have no intention of keeping. louisa, the co-owner, is as sweet as can be but will make empty promises on the phone just to get you off her back. dale, the other owner, is rude and dismissive.

my 4-year old daughter loves her class here, i appreciate the time she gets with her teacher, there are only 2 others in her class. the first painting she made in this class blew me away; i'm looking forward to them stretching the canvas so i can hang it her room.one thing - they definitely need to fix their website. while colorful and imaginative, it's hard to consider it useful as i never find what i'm looking for. i recommend calling or stopping by to see the place for yourself.

what a fun and great place for kids and adults!this is the place to take the kids to do something extraordinary. not your regular art studio. at 4cats expect the kids to get messy and have fun. they offer a paint splatter class and we're so looking forward to it. we also signed up for a fairy and pirate polymer clay class. they also offer classes and the prices are pretty reasonable.it's so well stock with high quality art supplies, it's so very clean. adults can have fun also. the curators were very friendly, too.they host birthday parties, which i'm considering hosting one for my soon to be three yr old. perhaps, we'll do the warhol soup cans as our project.anyhow folks, you need to check this place out for yourself. you will not be disappointed.

great place to have a birthday party that is different from your typical pump it up party. the place is perfect for 10-15 kids - i wouldn't advise if you have a larger group as the studio can feel cramped.the only thing i would say negative about this place is that they never return your calls. you call and leave messages and no one calls you back! better to go in person to sort out all the details.

we just celebrated my daughter's 2nd birthday here with a pop art party, lead and coordinated with mallory.it. was. awesome.mallory has a great way with kids and really kept them all engaged, which is a challenge for a dozen 1.5-4 year olds. she really maintained order and had everyone listening to her with very little parent interaction, so the grown-ups could mingle and enjoy a glass of wine. after painting, we stayed in the space for food and cupcakes. although it was a tight fit, it was comfortable enough. mallory made everything super easy and was laid back about everything. throughout the planning process she answered all my questions and always offered insights and help. i would absolutely recommend it as a kids party venue. we'll even look into attending workshops/classes there.

this cute little art space is very crowded for groups of 20 or more which is exactly what we had. but i have to admit, it was very fun! the kid loved it, as did his friends. we were there attending a three year old's birthday party, and it was packed with kids and adults. add a bunch of food, drinks, cake, and presents and you are committed to any small square of area you have unwittingly stepped onto for the duration of the event. there is a splatter room, which is exactly how it sounds. kids go in clean. kids come out colorformed. for the ocd parent, don't look. you'll stroke out.there is also a free paint time, which is a prelude to the splatter. i never got to take home the finished portrait, although i would have loved to. my kid is a picasso...like everyone else's kid on the planet.if you want to take pictures of the tots from above, there is a stairway to the top so you can look over and see them from an aerial view. there's not much room to stand, and only one or two people can comfortably stand there without being elbowed out by a really aggressive, little asian woman with a camera...not that i know anything about that. toward the end of the party, we were all hot and a little ripe with sweat. i'm sure on winter days it's a pleasure to be packed into a room and rubbed up against other parents and kids for warmth. but if you happen to be there on one of those ten days of warm san francisco weather in september you are destined to moisten the nearest unwitting victim. bring an art smock and some rain boots, unless you like scraping the paint off a screaming child in the bathtub. good times.

my granddaughter has attended several workshops and loved it; however, today we went for the workshop we had signed up for and everything was locked up and no one was there--am assuming they must have gone out of business or are ill. we were very disappointed. we also were supposed to pick up our previous art project next week. i hope they return so we can continue to take workshops.

my daughter's birthday party itself was great. however, we were told the kids artwork would be ready in about a week. one month later i was still trying to reach the studio but never got a return call. it turns out there was a mixup with our artwork and another family's and i had to prove which artwork was ours. i was promised our artwork "within the week" and here i am another month later still trying to reach the studio. i agree with other reviewers, the place has horrible customer service and do not return phone calls. my experience does not seem to be an isolated incident. very very disappointing!

i have never written a bad yelp review but my experience here was so terrible that i couldn't help but share it.i went to a workshop here called put a bird on it which was lead by ryan. the workshop was great. i made a painting on canvas. that's where the great ended. i wanted to book a party and wanted to get my canvas stretched which they offer for another $35.00. so i called and left a message.... not 1, not 2, not 3 but 4. ultimately i threatened to write a bad yelp review thinking they might call me back, but alas.... no call, no nothing! so no party will be booked there and i don't have my piece of art.... terrible terrible awful customer service.

what a cute intimate place. i had an art splatter birthday party at 4cats, which i felt was a success, given the set up was spot on for kiddos to express themselves with art and have fun. the staff was very nice and open to all of my requests. we are looking forward to our daughter taking art classes, where she can actually learn about the history of art and start to perfect her craft.

my son has done two classes here - a two day workshop and a one hour friday class. in both classes he exceeded his own expected ability (and ours!). the arts is great and it hangs on our walls, the teachers are patient and kind, the studio is clean. it is exciting for him to work on large proper canvasas and be expected to paint in various styles. i can't wait to take him to a musuem again to see the paintings - he will look at them in a whole new way.

my daughter had her birthday party here and everyone had a blast! we had the wonderful ryan as our "teacher" and he was so great with the kids (a gaggle of 10-year-old girls). teacher mallory provided very able backup. the studio is *very* tiny, but it was plenty of space for our group of 10 children and 2 adults. given the small space, we had told parents it was drop-off only, which turned out to be the right call. parties for preschoolers/younger kids who need their parents present would also be fine -- just be prepared to get cozy. first, ryan helped the girls screen-print the outline of a dragon, which they later painted with watercolors. he also instructed the girls in creating adorable little dragon "sculptures," which the teachers baked until they were hardened and then glued them into small plastic display cases (the cases cost an extra $4 each). the girls loved being able to take home their frame-worthy watercolor paintings and mantel-ready dragon sculptures. :-)the party structure: first hour for art instruction, remaining 45 minutes for food and birthday cake. it was just the right amount of time for a kids' party and i loved being able to just show up with some food and paper plates and let the experts do the rest. by the way, goat hill pizza is conveniently right across the street so you can just put in your order for pizza upon arrival and pick it up in time for the food/cake portion of the party. 4cats is a very well-run business with responsive staff and teachers who are excellent with kids! the party couldn't have gone more smoothly. highly recommend!

i'm revising my first review, since the owners were so earnest about trying to rectify the situation once they discovered my complaint. turns out there were a lot of unforeseen elements combining at once, such as technical problems, illness and failed communication; understandable in a new business. the owners were very gracious, apologized profusely, and offered a complimentary class. now, here are the positive aspects of my experience w/ the class my daughter took:a gorgeous little studio space, flooded w/ natural light in a great neighborhood. kind, patient teacher, (luisa) who was very good w/ the kids. very energetic and friendly administrator, morgan. co-owner dale is very concerned that the customers are happy. great art project that my daughter enjoyed a lot, in a small class format in a calm environment. we're going to try it again.

Hosted a "paint splatter" party for our daughter's 4th birthday - the staff and experience at 4Cats was great. They kept the kids engaged and the time flew by. The kids enjoyed splattering paint on the giant mural and the parents enjoyed watching them. BTW when they say "dress for mess", they do mean it gets messy. But as promised, the paint comes off easily in the bathtub. Thanks 4Cats!

The best art experience in Vancouver! I've been lucky enough to attend two painting sessions at 4Cats Kits so far and have had nothing but a blast. REVIEW: This is only for their adult classes. Attended a class recently and feel like this is the only place in the City (besides private classes) where you can get taught by people who know what they are doing. I have been to a lot of art spaces in the City that offer NO guidance- and when you ask don't even know how to help. I took longer then most to finish my painting, so I came a few extra times but the price was good and the staff flexible and understanding. Will definitely do this again.

4 Cats being labelled as an Arts Studio is almost criminally understating things. 4 Cats is the summer camp saviour for your artistic kids that don't want to get dumped into a random sports camp. The projects that come home are great and my daughter always has a good time. That's as much as I can say for myself, however I can add that my wife enjoys going on her own and with her friends to some of the evening projects and the stuff she comes back with is amazing too. She speaks very highly of the staff and how they gently guide and support your project during the process. All in all highly recommended for old and young, pro and amateur alike!

I really love the concept of various art classes being offered and had bought a class for my best friend and I. We were really looking forward to it. It started off so well. We were going to put a bird on it!! The instructors gave us an hour and a half to complete a multilayered painting. The actual instruction was great but they rushed us right through the whole process. By the end 3/4 of us weren't done the painting and they didnot offer time to come back and finish later. When I asked about that the instructor said, "well you should have enough time to do the whole project. What do you expect for 25 dollars?" 4 Cats you are doing yourself a disservice by not understanding your customers needs and creating an atmosphere of rushed "creativity". If you need to push the pace of the class consistently throughout the time given, you may need to reconsider the projects you are trying to offer or give additional finishing time. This current structure doesn't offer a good experience. You risk losing customers with this structure. I went in for a relaxing time of creativity and left legitimately disappointed with the finished project. Please rethink what you are doing. We were eager to attend more classes but have changed our minds. And I know we were not the only students with this opinion.

My friend and our daughters (6 and 10) attended a unicorn mug workshop. When we arrived and signed in nobody told us the space was open. We stood around in the entrance for about 10 -15 min and finally asked if we could go in. The space was so crowded it was ridiculous. I had a tiny corner of the table that was impossible to work on. I actually ended up leaving the table during painting to stand at a counter. I could not see or hear the instructor at all due to the crowding. I was floundering the whole time. I was also trying to help my 6 year old. I more than once asked one of the instructors to help her and they would say yes and walk away. My friend was constantly getting elbowed by the stranger beside her. This made her project very difficult to do. My friend, her 10 year old and I all were very frustrated the entire time. At the end when we were putting our mugs on the tray the instructor made a comment about my daughters mug being very likely to break due to how it was made. I left without comment. This was not a pleasant experience and I would not go back. Have not received the final product yet so I am unsure how it turned out.

Very disappointed in my experience here. Took my family in to make monster mugs in October. Seemed like the instructor did not care how these turned out... We were hurried and not given helpful instruction. After we completed the sad looking mugs we had to wait many weeks before we could pick them up. The final product was not good... The paint looked bad, the shape of the mugs was clunky and there were many rough and sharp edges. Just feel it was a waste of our time and money. Totally turned me off this art studio. Maybe it's better for kids parties...

Penguin Mug class was fun but 1.5 hrs is not enough time. 2 hrs would be perfect. It's very rushed and at the end you're stressed out trying to finish. Not what should happen at a craft class where you want to enjoy yourself. There's no time to look at what others are doing because some mugs were very creative or chat with the people you came with other than "what did the instructor just say?" because she was usually at least one or two steps ahead of us.

Went in almost 4 weeks ago to a cat mug workshop, the instructors were great and the experience at the actual workshop was good but the customer service after was terrible. It is supposed to take two weeks to get your project back and I have been calling every few days to see what is going on and the response is always tomorrow. Turns out the ovens went down, which I understand happens. The communication has been less than satisfactory as I am the one trying to sort out what is going on. A few days ago they said to be on the safe side to come in on Friday, which is today, go there and once again it's nowhere to be found and to come back in "tomorrow". Don't waste your time and money here. They are completely clueless as to how to run a business and I will never be coming back to this location.

The instructors are nice but the amount of time given for the mug workshops is not enough and you rush to finish and end up with a not so great piece. Also, the mugs here are half the size of the ones at Oak Bay and the hours of operation are super inconvenient for pick up unless you like driving in rush hour. Oh and be careful when you go to pick up, they don't know what they're doing, they told me someone had mistakenly taken my friend's mug that I was picking up as well so it wasn't there, then they called her about 30 min later saying nevermind it was there, making me look bad and making my friend drive up to get it.

The employees are nice, but the program is designed to be rushed for first timers. The hand-making part is still fun, but the firing was not handled professionally in my opinion. So far, I have done two items at this place. My cups has multiple finger prints on them which do not belong to me. The finishing glaze for the last one did not even cover the whole cup. As an educated guess, they must have done some kind of transforms when the colour paint is still wet.

My daughters love going here to learn about artists. They also create some wonderful artwork to bring home and share. They've also done paintings that we've had framed. Great place for a birthday party. Only warning, wear paint clothes! There's a good chance you'll get messy! :D

Terrible management. They cancel classes constantly, like more than half the time. Show up for birthday parties and they weren't there. Also, two instances where there was out right bullying by other kids in the class that we saw, very violent language and the moderators seem totally oblivious to it. While I don't expect them to see everything, there is far too much going wrong here to risk sending my child here for anything ever again.

I just found out about 4cats a month ago and so far I have been having a blast with my daughter or on my own or with other adults. I love that I live close to this place and I get to feel like a kid all over again. This place is a must if you're into art and crafts. The price is reasonable for each drop in and 10 week classes. Which I will be getting my daughter into.

Booked an afternoon art class with our 3 year old. Apparently the class was cancelled due to under-enrollment, but we never received any notice. So we arrive there with a 3 years old excited for an art class...and it was empty except for 2 young bored girls with nothing to do. So we ask politely if she can just draw a picture for 10 minutes or something...we weren't even upset at the class being cancelled. They said no...leaving a very upset 3 year old. Bad business practices. Lame Staff. Not gonna get any more of our money Update: 4 cats called 24 hours later and apologized for what happened. They also sent some paints and a gift card. At least they tried to fix their poor service, and made up for it with a nice apology by phone.

Booked a birthday party at this location and when we arrived at the scheduled time; the location was closed with a sign on the door. Waited for 15 minutes and had to make alternate plans for 10 kids. We did not receive an email or phone call to let us know. So disappointed; I was looking forward to the painting.

Booked clay birthday party for my daughter. We were told just right before the party time that clay was not available. How can we find an alternative plan for 11 little kids just before the arranged party time? My daughter was so sad and disappointed. This studio ruined her birthday plan. The studio instructor and the manager gave us exactly the same response “It is not their fault.’ It seems as customer we made the biggest fault to choose this studio. Have sent letter to their headquarter office two weeks ago, but no reply although automatically email reply says, “We will reply within 3 business days. Hopefully today!”. What a joke!

My family and I have been to events/classes here a few times and have never left satisfied. I attended a clay character building class with my children that was supposed to be guided but it was so rushed that the three of us left sad and dissatisfied. My daughter has been to mug making sessions twice with friends and will never go back because of being rushed to the point of not being able to complete her mug. No one wants a partially done mug with your name spelled wrong (by 4Cats) on the bottom. Making a mug should be relaxed and fun but this is just not the place for it. My wife sent them a message privately about our experiences, hoping they would be receptive and at least say they would try to make future visits better, because the idea of what they're doing is so good but got a brush off response from them. I guess they were too rushed for a proper answer.

My 9 year old daughter went to your Graffiti March Break camp. She is generally shy but she had such a terrific time she forgot about her shyness. I loved how she was so proud to show us all the work she produced! She has already been taking some of the techniques she learned and applying them at home! Thanks so much for a great program:)
